Acronyms Demystified.
Life is awash with acronyms, which are great for helping us to communicate more rapidly, and saves a lot of typing. However, they can cause a lot of confusion. So the following is a list of the most commonly found photographic acronyms - with a few which are more specific - and a brief description of what they mean.
| FIAP | Federation Internationale de l'Art Photographique. |
| AFIAP | Artiste FIAP. First level award from FIAP for achievement in international salons. |
| EFIAP | Excellence FIAP. Second level of award from FIAP for achievement in international salons. |
| MFIAP | Master FIAP. The highest award from FIAP for achievement in international salons. |
| PSA | Photographic Society of America (of which WCPG is a member). |
| PPSA | Proficiency PSA. First level award from PSA for achievement in international salons. |
| EPSA | Excellence PSA. Second level award from PSA for achievement in international salons. |
| MPSA | Master PSA. Third level award from PSA for achievement in international salons. |
| GMPSA | Grand Master PSA. Highest level award from PSA for achievement in international salons. |
| APSA | Associate of PSA. Awarded for contributions to the advancement of photography, or for service. |
| FPSA | Fellow of PSA. Awarded for outstanding contributions to the advancement of photography. |
| PAGB | Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (of which NCPF is a member). |
| CPAGB | Credit PAGB. First level award from PAGB. The standard is "good club photography". |
| DPAGB | Distinction PAGB. Second level award from PAGB. The standard is "open exhibition photography". |
| MPAGB | Master PAGB. Highest award from PAGB. The standard is "highest level of amateur photography". |
| APAGB | Award for meritorious service. |
| RPS | Royal Photographic Society. |
| LRPS | Licentiate of the RPS.First level award from the RPS. |
| ARPS | Associate of the RPS. Second level award from the RPS. |
| FRPS | Fellow of the RPS. Highest level award from the RPS. |
| NCPF | Northern Counties Photographic Federation (of which WCPG is a member). |
| SPF | Scottish Photographic Federation. |
| WPF | Welsh Photographic Federation. |
