And a teaspoon of wishful thinking...

News and views by Christine Hodgson

It just seems a lovely idea (taken from the new Alice in Wonderland film) to add this ingredient to our more boring or difficult daily challenges. The wishful thinking can be anything we want it to be, and I'm sure having someone like Johnny Depp around, even in fantasy, would brighten up even the most mundane of jobs! Not that wishful thinking was needed in any shape or form by these recipients of FIAP awards.

A positive shipping order of AFIAP awards have been granted to the following group members, and a special evening planned to mark their achievements:

Dennis Balmer
Steve bradley
Margaret Dixon
Keith Greggain
Bob Hodgson
Christine Hodgson
Bas Montgomery
Bill Stephens
Graeme Webb
John Williams
Kate Willmer

Pax Garabedian has been awarded an EFIAP,
and
Tony Potter gets an EFIAP/Bronze.

Congratulations and well done everybody.

The planned get together at the Wild Duck on the evening of the 22nd is open to all members and should be a good night for those receiving awards and a nice way to say thank you to those who helped make the GBSPC such a success.

Membership fees due!

Just another little reminder that our annual print subscription of 4 mounted prints containing at least one mono print is due in the next few weeks. These are the pictures that are used to brighten up and add interest to the hospital walls, both in the West Cumberland and Workington Community hospitals. These are very much appreciated by patients, families, visitors and staff, and are often a topic of conversation and comment. The subjects vary of course, but the cleverly placed image can enhance what might have been an anxious of lengthy hospital appointment.

Potter inspired poetry

Tony did a turn in Gateshead in March, judging and offering comments about folks pictures. This poem came through as a thank you:

Tony Potter came to us
From way out on the west
He showed us many images
The ones he liked the best

He used the word pictorial
Talked on the shape a picture makes
He liked to be contextual
Which showed in what he takes

Tony's pictures tell a story
His stunning portrait work
His humor weaving through all of them
That makes the audience smirk

He showed us Schizophrenia
He showed us where to look
He showed us that he definitely
Doesn't do things by the book

Infra red in the camera
Is a new idea to me
Tony says he mucks about
Bu he's good, as we can see

So thank you Tony, it's been great
An inspirational night
A master class in pictures
That all worked out JUST RIGHT!

Oh heck, there'll be no stopping him now !!!

New members

The group were introduced to Rosamund and Phil at our last meeting. Both are new to the group and probably a bit perplexed by that nights activities, but stick around, it's all good fun and educational as well! Welcome both
